Ensimmäinen whippettimme, maailman paras Maggie. Ei ehkä kaunein kukka kedolla eikä todellakaan mikään pikku tyttö, mutta täydellinen kaikilta muilta osin. Koko kuuden vuoden elämänsä aikana Maggie ei haukkunut kertaakaan, asia mikä sai mieheni ihastumaan rotuun lopullisesti. Maggie menehtyi syöpään aivan liian varhain ja jätti jälkeensä ison ikävän, mutta myös lähtemättömän rakkauden rotua kohtaan. Ajauduimme tielle jolta ei ollut paluuta. Meistä tuli whippetharrastajia...
Our first Whippet was the best ever Maggie. Maybe not the prettiest one and definitely not the smallest girl but perfect in other ways. She didn't bark once during those six years we had her. That's why my husband fell in love with the breed. We lost Maggie to cancer way too early and she is still deeply missed. Because of her we fell in love with Whippets and that's how we became Whippet people...

"Taffy"

Ja niin taloon saapui Taffy... Soitimme Debbielle samana iltana kun olimme joutuneet luopumaan Maggiesta ja siellä sattui olemaan pariviikkoiset pennut. Debbie valitsi meille Taffyn ja muutaman kuukauden odotus päättyi kun mieheni toi tuliaispaketin Virginiasta mukanaan. Taffy olikin sitten ihan eri maata kuin Maggie, mutta omalla tavallaan hyvin hurmaava. Taffy jopa haukkuu satunnaisesti! Ulkonäöllisesti en uskaltanut edes toivoa saavani yhtä kaunista koiraa eikä juoksuharrastuksen eteenkään ole tarvinnut töitä sen kummemmin tehdä. Taffy osoitti heti ensikerrasta tietävänsä mitä vieheen kanssa tulee tehdä. Kuplivan iloisen ja osallistuvan luonteensa puolesta neidistä olisi kyllä varmasti melkein mihin tahansa lajiin.
Along came Taffy... We called Debbie on the same night we lost Maggie and she happened to have a litter of two week old puppies. She picked us one and after waiting for few months my husband brought us a little package from Virginia. And she was something else! So different than Maggie in every way but very lovely on her own special way. She even barks occasionally! When it comes to looks I couldn't have asked for prettier dog and she's been lure crazy from the day one. Her happy and bubbly nature would be suitable for any kind of action.
We are forever grateful to Debbie Butt and Amanda Giles for trusting us these beautiful girls. Thank you!

"Greta"

Greta jäi kotiin yhdessä äitinsä Taffyn kanssa. Maggien ohella se on maailman helpoin koira ja jääkin sen vuoksi helposti hieman vähemmälle kun ei vaadi samalla tavalla huomiota kuin muut. Gretasta kasvoi iso tyttö, uroksen ylärajoille, mutta kun palikat ovat muilta osin kohdillaan ei valioituminen ollut ongelma ja se tapahtuikin nopeammin kuin osasin edes haaveilla. Myös juoksupuolelle lähdettiin velipoikien huikean menestyksen innoittamina vaikka alkuun olinkin jo sen lajin osalta lyönyt hanskat tiskiin koska alku ei ollutkaan samanlaista ilotulitusta kuin Taffyn kohdalla aikoinaan. Mutta aivan kelpo juoksija sieltä kuoriutui ja kävimme myös radalta hakemassa Kaunis juoksija-diplomiiin vaadittavat suoritukset. Viimeinen ja valioiva maastoserti jäi kuitenkin haaveeksi läppävikadiagnoosin myötä. Toki läpi uran myös hieman liian terävä äly oli haitaksi; varsinkin jos finaalirata oli alkuerärata toiseen suuntaan, kaatui hyvin mennyt alku oikomiseen finaalissa. Greta aukoo myös ovet leikiten.
Greta was our keeper form Taffy's litter. Along with Maggie she is the easiest dog in the world and therefore easily gets a little less attention as she doesn't require the same amount of attention as the others. Greta grew up to be a big girl, at the upper limits of a male, but when the blocks are in the right places gaining a conformation title was not a problem and it happened faster than I could have ever dreamed of. We also attended lure coursing trials inspired by the incredible success of her brothers although at first I had already thrown in the towel because the start was not the same fireworks as it was with Taffy. But she developed into a very good courser and she also got the oval track license and gained the Beautiful Runner diploma. However, the final lure coursing certificate remained a dream due because of the MMVD diagnosis. Of course, throughout her career a slightly too sharp brain was also a disadvantage as she too often knew where the lure was going next. Greta also opens doors easily.

Bella oli 5-kymppislahja itselleni. Olin aina haaveillut mustavalkoisesta whippetistä ja päätin että nyt jos koskaan on sen aika toteutua. Bellan kohdalla houkutteli myös täydellinen sukutaulu mikä onkin täynnä toinen toistaan upeampia koiria, voisin ottaa niistä kenet vain. Mutta Bella me saatiin! Ensimmäinen whippet joka todellakin juttelee ja kommentoi melkein kaikkeen ja on todella äänekäs. Bella on myös äärimmäisen helppolukuinen ja tiedän aina missä sen kanssa mennään, mistä se ei tykkää ja mikä on mahtavinta ikinä. Bellalle mikään ei ole kädenlämpöistä. Talossa ei ole aiemmin asunut näin vietikästä koiraa (jos podengoa ei lasketa) joka on myös todella kaunis. Ja villi!
Bella was a 50th birthday present for myself. I had always dreamed of a black and white Whippet and decided that now if ever it was time to make it happen. When it comes to Bella, the perfect pedigree was also attractive, which is full of amazing dogs, I could have taken any of them. But Bella was what we got! The first whippet that really talks and comments on almost everything and is really loud. Bella is also extremely easy to read and I always know her feelings, what she doesn't like and what is the greatest thing ever. Nothing is just lukewarm for Bella. There has never been such a keen hunter in the house before (if you don't count the podengo) who is also really beautiful. And wild!
